I recieved this link from James with the following comment : This is all Alex K's fault 'cos him and a bunch of friends got drunk and forgot to go and vote!
the adverts for the abortion voting thing in portugal were amazing...a hand clamped over a women's vagina...obviously this was not effective :( it is crazy that it is illegal in portugal (or anywhere for that matter), especially when you consider you can just hop on a plane or bus and get it done not too far away...
The whole abortion debate in Portugal is imporperly named as abortion is currently legal for specific cases (i.e.rape and others) and the day after pill is not only legal but it is given away for free and anonymouslly (as in Spain, yeah I know I fucked up the spelling...) The current debate is more about setting the weeks limit on abortion. 12-16-18 weeks? From a right wing, no abortion, point of view is much more convenient to call it a "legalization of abortion" than "reviewing abortion legislation".
My personal point of view is that if day after pills are avaliable and exeptions are allowed, I could perfectly live without much abortion options. I mean, consensual sex between adults also mean that you take the responsability. If I demand the right to have my body parts pierced without the state considering me mentally insane (unlike the UK where genital piercing is still a gray area along with SM which is right down illegal and has been confirmed to be so by the European Court of Human Rights), I also have to accept the responsability of anything that comes out of that: an unwanted pregnancy or catching an SD and not suing the other party (the toga party)

As far as I know, abortion is LEGAL in the United States.
Maybe James has some new info about some recent law changes that I´m not aware of.
